Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow

The first wristwatch produced by the company appeared in 1913 when it developed its own hairspring. The Seiko Group produces every component of its iconic Spring Drive watch. In Japan, the Seiko Company is highly appreciated as the prestigious producer of luxury mechanical watches worth the chronometer status. The history of the company started in 1881 with the foundation of K. Hattori Co that involved in the production of pocket watches in 1895.Seiko Spring DriveThe development of the Seiko Spring Drive was based upon the company's great expertize in the field of both mechanical technology and quartz watches. The Spring Drive has incorporated four peculiar features: new mainspring, refined winding system, new system of time regulation and glide-motion hands. The biggest advantage of the Seiko Spring Drive is its supreme accuracy equal to the accuracy provided by a quartz watch. Its Grand Seiko and Credo mechanical timepieces are sold for thousands of dollars.Three Important Stages of Seiko Quartz RevolutionSeiko considers its history to be marked by three major stages of quartz revolution. The escapement moving back and forth is a really delicate component greatly subjected to wear because of the friction. The Seiko Epson specialists replaced the escapement with a new electronic device for time regulation. It was called a Trisynchro regulator, no-contact one-way motion device that implied less friction and liability to error.

Breitling Airwolf - Instruments for Professionals

The big-sized hands together with the triangular-shaped hour hand are meant to offer easy and precise time-reading even under reduced light conditions. The hands and hour-markers are covered by luminescent coating to provide superb visibility when the wearer of the Breitling watch finds himself in the dim light at great sea depths. The domed sapphire crystal is glare-proof on both sides. The unidirectional rotating bezel incorporates a 120-tooth system. The brand's watchmakers opted for the bezel's fluted profile, and the over-sized crown to simplify handling. The timepiece has been created to offer maximum sturdiness, functionality and reliability to become a perfect timekeeping companion for adventures in the depths of the sea. In the heart of the the Breitling Superocean Heritage there operates a mechanical self-winding movement operating at a frequency of 28800 vibrations per hour, with precision guaranteed by the COSC chronometer-certification.The Superocean Heritage offers the choice between two new originally-designed straps. The first version of the strap is represented by the Ocean Classic woven steel bracelet . It is based upon the unusual aesthetic appeal of the initial Superocean model. The strap creates a distinctive contrast with the plain su***ces of the watch's dial and bezel. The bracelet special for its elegance and comfort of wearing, is provided with a folding clasp for easy handling.

The rectangular design, the first in the collection, is not the only surprising feature of the Breitling for Bentley Flying B. The watch is special for its original display mode. The Breitling watch incorporates the jumping hour mechanism with the hour hand replaced by a disc positioned at 12 o'clock. As for the minutes, they are read off in a more traditional way. You will notice a single hand placed in the center of the dial. An off-centered sub-dial at 6 o'clock is used for showing the seconds. The over-sized case of the Breitling watch (38.5 x 57.3 mm in diameter) sports cambered rectangular lines and original play on angles and curves, hinting at the elegance of a coupe or cabriolet automobile model. The Breitling watch-makers wanted to create the timepiece that would be immediately noticed on the wrist of its owner. It sports a wide range of original details, including the knurled motif that was suggested by Bentley instrumentation. The hour-markers of the Breitling watch are produced from mother-of-pearl. The dial's design is based upon distinguishing interplay on reliefs and materials, underlined by a subtle color touch matching the central part as well as the jumping hour aperture. The Breitling artisans created a slightly cambered dial profile that required all their mastery and ingenuity. Following the steps of all the models entering the Breitling for Bentley watch collection, the Flying B takes is driven by an exceptional movement - self-winding Breitling Caliber 28B with a 28,800-vibrations per hour beat. The precision of timekeeping is guaranteed by the official COSC chronometer-certification. The Breitling watch is 100-meter water-resistant. The dial of the Breitling Flying B represents a true masterpiece of artistry and craftsmanship.

Seiko Spring Drive Finally comes into the WorldThe watch of Akahana's dreams appeared after 28 years of research and development, 230 patent applications and 600 movement prototypes. The Seiko Spring Drive was released in October, 2005. The new timekeeping creation represented a mechanical watch provided with the time-regulating system developed by Seiko Epson. The Spring Drive offered the same timekeeping accuracy as an analog quartz watch powered by batteries. In the heart of the Seiko Spring Drive there beats automatic Caliber 5R, a real wonder of 'mechatronics'. Caliber 5R was developed in two versions -one that comprised 276 parts and the other with 280 parts. Like a quartz watch it incorporates an integrated circuit and quartz crystal, thus maintaining the accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month that corresponds to the accuracy provided by a battery-driven analog quartz watch. The Seiko watch-makers replaced the escapement, the traditional time regulating system in the mechanical timepiece, with a new Seiko Epson device for time regulation. These are manually assembled by the five most experienced Seiko watch-makers who work in a special master watchmakers' workshop . Following the steps of a conventional mechanical watch, the Spring Drive uses a mainspring as a power source for turning the hands.

Altimeter, barometer, thermometer, and digital compass.Altitude recording function (records ascents and descents).Ascent and descent rate indicator.Weather trend indicator (barometric pressure history for the last 3 and 6 hours).Storm alarm (based on sudden barometric changes).Local sunrise and sunset times (just set your continent, country, and city).Multiple languages (French, English, German, and Spanish).Dual time (two time zones).Stopwatch.Day counter (counts down the number of days to an event, or counts up from an event).Daily Alarm.Stainless steel case.Mineral glass crystal.Electroluminescent backlight.Water resistant to 30 meters, or about 100 feet.Choice of bands which come in a variety of colors and styles.Ability to wear as a pendant (requires a $25 accessory).Suunto has a very nice interactive demo of the Lumi online. Notice how the watch uses a bitmapped LCD which creates an uncluttered and very usable display. Even complicated features like selecting a continent, country, and city for sunrise and sunset times seem *** with the menu-driven inte***ce. The "second hand" and compass pointer are rendered as small pointers around the edge of the gear-toothed display which is both clever and unobtrusive. The entire display has an electroluminescent backlight for night viewing. From the interactive demo, the Suunto Lumi appears to be a very capable, usable, and attractive ABC watch.

The New Suunto D4 Dive Computer

I really like watches that make it easy for me double check the day at the same time I'm checking the date. INDIGLO illumination. The Timex iControl has an excellent electroluminescent function. Rather than illuminating the entire LCD, only the digits are illuminated which makes them very crisp and easy to read. The iControl can also be put into "night-mode" which lights up the digits when any button is pushed to make operating the watch in the dark much easier. Water resistant to 100 meters, or about 330 feet. I even found the iControl extremely useful while walking around the city one day since I was able to keep my iPod buried in my backpack. Of course, having to push a button on your watch before you can talk to people may come across as a bit strange, but in my opinion, it's all part of the fun.Supplies are a bit limited right now, but eventually the Timex iControl will be available in seven different colors (black, black/silver, light gray, blue, pink, orange, and green). Retail price is $125, if you're lucky enough to find one in stock. This watch was generously provided by Fashion Time. The Timex iControl will keep track of the time and date in three different time zones. It uses a very *** approach to multi-time zone support: rather than being preprogrammed with cities, time zones, daylight savings rules, etc., it *** provides you with three date and time "slots" which you can set any way you want. Sometimes the ***st approach is all you need. Day and date display. This may seem like a small thing, but not enough digital watches show you both the day and the date simultaneously.

Introduction to Doxa: Distinctive Professional Dive Watches

Air mode is for diving with standard air, nitrox allows you to use up to three different gas mixtures, and gauge mode is for free-diving (diving without any tank at all). Integrated digital compass.Altitude adjustment in case your dive doesn't start from sea level (as may be the case with lakes).Optional wireless transmitter which attaches to the high-pressure port on your tank and sends pressure data to the D9.Low battery warning -- essential for preventing a diver from finding a dead computer mid-dive.Temperature measurement.Multiple decompression modes. All the expected digital watch functions (12/24h modes, multiple alarms, dual time zones, stopwatch, clock, calendar).USB inte***ce with PC software for downloading dive logs.Graphical inte***ce for depth and dive time.Although the most interesting feature of the Timex iControl is certainly its ability to remotely control your iPod, I do want to point out that even without the iPod functionality, it's actually a very nice sports watch. It's so light, and the webbed strap is so soft and airy, that it's very easy to forget that it's on your wrist. The bezel has a nice shine to it, and the LCD is one of the highest contract displays I've seen on a digital watch. The fit and finish of the Timex iControl is clearly a step up from previous IRONMAN models. But let's be honest: wirelessly controlling your iPod from your watch is extremely cool, and not just for athletes. Although my iControl mainly accompanies me to the gym, once you start wearing it around, all kinds of additional uses start to become apparent. As Paul pointed out in our original Timex iControl post, if you connect your iPod to your car stereo through an auxiliary input, you can essentially control your car stereo with your watch which is easier and probably much safer than messing with your iPod while driving.

The Suunto Lumi: An Adventure Watch for Women

They all come together to add nice visual accents to a very handsome watch.Visibility is first-rate during daylight hours as the black on yellow hands are very readable. Each hand has a distinct shape, so there's no confusion at a glance. Unfortunately, the skeletonized hands are a little hard to read in the dark since "Circle means hour" and "blob means minute" takes time to interpret mentally. I prefer solid lume-filled hands, myself, but this is far from a deal-killer.The bracelet is another thing of delight. It's first-rate, and very comfortable for a watch at this price point. It has a slip-lock wetsuit extension similar to the one on the Seiko Orange Monster, and four micro-adjustments for fine-tuning. Additionally, it has solid links and endlinks, a pushbutton release with flip lock, and, like the rest of the watch, a nice combination of finishes. The case is particularly detailed, with mirrored bevels, brushed flat su***ces, and a nicely textured bezel for friction.Speaking of the bezel, this is one of the best I've experienced on any watch, including much more expensive Seikos. Looking closely at the profile, you see that the teeth are triangular with a rough finish. This makes it easy to grasp and rotate, which is a good match for the 120-click ratchet and perfect level of friction. It glides beautifully when you want it to, but it's not going to get jarred out of place easily.
